Cyclist aged 11 killed after fatal road collision in Kerry

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic collision that occurred 3km outside Abbeydorney, Tralee, Co. Kerry.

The crash occured at approximately 7.30pm on Monday 10 May. An 11-year-old pedal cyclist and a van were involved in the collision.

The cyclist was seriously injured during the collision and was taken to Tralee University Hospital, where she later passed away.

The driver of the van, a man in his 50s, was removed to Tralee University Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

The road remains closed as a technical examination of the scene is being conducted by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators.  Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to come forward.

Any road users who were travelling near Abbeydorney on the R556, between 7pm and 8pm on Monday evening, and who may have camera footage (including dash cam), are asked to make it available to Gardaí.
