Well, now…

The jokes write themselves with this one, really.

The members’ bar of Dáil Éireann, exclusively reserved for TDs and Senators, was forced to close temporarily due to a large rodent being spotted on the premises.

RTÉ reports that a rat was spotted in the small bar area on Tuesday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the Houses of the Oireachtas confirmed that the bar was closed shortly afterwards and remains sealed off while the situation is being handled.

The bar is expected to re-open for business as usual on Wednesday afternoon.

It is believed that ongoing renovations works at Leinster House may have disturbed rodents living below the 274-year-old building.

The overall cost of the renovations is expected to exceed €18 million.
