Two people were killed and five were injured yesterday.

Danish police have shot and killed the man they believe was responsible for Saturday’s attacks in Copenhagen.

One person was killed on an attack on an arts café, hosting the controversial Swedish artist Lars Vilks, while another died at a nearby synagogue later in the day.

The suspect was tracked down in the Norrebro area of the city with help from CCTV and a local taxi driver.

Police surrounded the residence where he was dropped and opened fire when he emerged, reached for a firearm and shot at officers.

The attack on the arts café was deemed an act of terrorism by Danish Prime Minister Helle Thorning-Schmidt. Vilks has been threatened with death many times over his cartoons depicting the Prophet Mohammad.

Yesterday’s attacks were the first of their kind since the Charlie Hebdo attacks in France last month, during which 17 people lost their lives over three days of violence.
