Gardaí in Fermoy, County Cork are investigating following an incident in which 13 dead rabbits were laid out on a footpath near a primary school.

The discovery was made in the village of Conna on Tuesday morning (7 May), with a photograph later shared on the Conna Community Council Facebook page.

It is believed that children witnessed the grim scene as they walked to school.

An image of the rabbits can be seen below.

Warning; some people may find it distressing.

“Why in the world would anyone lay out thirteen dead rabbits in a row on the path to the school this morning?” the Conna Community Council post began.

“Some of them just babies. Thanks to Patrick for clearing them away.

“Sorry for the children who had to see that on the way to school.”

Gardaí attended the scene in Conna and have asked locals to report anyone seen trespassing or acting suspiciously in the area.

CCTV has been consulted, and anyone who may have been driving through the area on Monday night or the early hours of Tuesday morning, particularly those with dash cam footage, are urged to contact Fermoy Garda Station on 025 82100.

Alternatively, people may contact the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
