Debenhams closing ireland

There are 11 Debenhams stores across Ireland.

Debenhams is to liquidate its operations in Ireland and close all its stores across the country.

The retailer had initially shut all 11 stores across Ireland due to the Covid-19 crisis.

It’s understood staff were informed on Thursday that its stores would not reopen after the Covid-19 crisis was over and their jobs were gone.

The company blamed trading challenges in Ireland which were exacerbated by the impact of Covid-19.

A liquidator is expected to be appointed to the Irish operation in the coming days.

The UK side of the company will enter into administration as a form of solvency protection.
