Deliveroo is adding a new feature to their platform which allows customers to tip restaurants on the app when they place their order.

It’s part of the company’s “Love Your Local” campaign to help customers support their favourite local restaurants.

The feature has already been rolled out in other overseas markets, including Australia.

When customers are paying at the ‘checkout’ they will be able to round-up their bill or tip the restaurant from a selection of predetermined amounts.

All tips will go directly to the restaurant partner, providing a potential financial boost to the restaurant during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Independent restaurants are at the heart of so many communities and they’re at the heart of Deliveroo,” Will Shu, CEO, Deliveroo said.

“We are constantly looking for new ways to support their success and make sure more people can order their amazing meals.”

Xian Street Food, an authentic Chinese restaurant in Dublin, has seen an unprecedented growth in customer orders during the Covid-19 outbreak.

“When the outbreak started, our business changed overnight and we had to quickly adapt by focussing on delivery and introducing increased safety and hygiene measures,” Mr Yang, manager of Xian Street Food said.

“Many challenges lie ahead for the restaurant industry but we are delighted to say we are in a great position to continue serving food to our community in years to come,” he added.
