Donald Trump has once again repeated his bizarre and false claim about Brexit

Why use this one?

US President Donald Trump has again repeated his false claim that he predicted the result of the Brexit referendum the day before it happened.

Speaking with reporters alongside Taoiseach Leo Varadkar on Thursday, Trump said that he was in Scotland at the opening of his new golf club the day before the referendum, and that he'd stated his belief that Britain would vote to leave the European Union.

However, Trump was referring to his trip to his own luxury golf club in Scotland. But he actually opened this golf course the day after the referendum, as his tweet at the time shows.

He did predict the result before the ballot on other occasions, so it's strange that he would consistently use this example having previously mentioned it during a meeting with Theresa May in July of last year, where his claims were similarly debunked.

Trump also announced that he intends to visit Ireland during 2019.

“I will be coming at some point this year," he said. "I missed it last year, and I would have loved to have been there.

"It’s a special place and I have a very warm spot for Doonbeg, I will tell you that. It is just a great place,” he said.
