August 2022 saw a 30% year on year growth in the demand for new EVs on DoneDeal, while demand for new diesel cars fell by 26% in the same period.
There has also been an 80% increase in the number of EVs on Irish roads in the first nine months of this year, compared to the same period last year.
While petrol and diesel vehicles still overwhelmingly dominate the market, EVs now make up 13.31% of cars in this country.
"This historic observation cements the shifting attitudes of car buyers towards EVs and provides a notable signal of Ireland's electric evolution racing into 2023," DoneDeal said in a statement.
It added: "Car manufacturers now offering longer ranges on EVs presents further cause for optimism for the future of EVs in this country, so long as the country's charging infrastructure, stock levels and energy prices keep pace with appetite."
