Penalty

Do you live in any of these?

The rules of the road are in place for the safety and comfort of all road users, but failure to follow the rules of the road while driving will result in you getting penalty points and fines.

Although, it seems if you chance your arm in court, you’re more likely than not to get off the hook. Startling figures revealed that between January 2013 and March 2015, over 147,000 drivers were summonsed to court for penalty point offences, with 77% of them escaping conviction.

But which counties are earning the most number of penalty points on the road so far in 2017? Well, figures from the first three months of the year show that, surprise surprise, Dublin tops the list in terms of the most penalty points dolled out.

In the combined months of January, February and March this year, Dublin drivers received a cumulative 368,393 points over the three month period.

Cork drivers, as would also be expected, received quite a high number with 190,896 points being given out to motorists.

Below are the ten counties which received the most penalty points in 2017. A honourable mention must go to the drivers of Kerry, who finished just outside of the top ten with 51,445 points being given to Kerry drivers.
