Dublin Airport suspends Platinum Services bookings in order to “optimise resources”

Rates for the service started at €295 per person.

Dublin Airport has suspended bookings for its Platinum Services option as part of an effort to “optimise resources” at the building.

This follows over 1,000 people missing flights on Sunday, 29 May due to large queues and organisational chaos at the airport.

In the days following the controversy, Dublin Airport Authority (daa) CEO Dalton Philips appeared before an Oireachtas committee where he outlined the airport’s plans to deliver an improved passenger experience to its customers into the busy summer period.

Last Sunday, following the implementation of the plans, there were none of the delays experienced the previous week at the airport despite a “very busy” first wave of departures, the daa said at the time.

However, the airport has now also taken the further measure to suspend bookings for its Platinum Services facility, a 24-hour terminal that offers VIP personalised treatment.

With rates starting at €295 per person, services provided include access to a private check-in, a private security screening area and a private suite with complimentary snacks.

Also on offer is a chauffeur service to take passengers directly to their boarding gate.

In a statement to JOE, a daa spokesperson said: “Platinum Services is currently operating but is not taking new bookings.

“We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”

Meanwhile, RTÉ News reports that the airport has taken this action to “optimise resources” across its operation.

Philips had used the airport’s Platinum Services when travelling to Saudi Arabia on the Saturday before the airport chaos of Sunday, 29 May.

Appearing in front of the Oireachtas Travel Committee, the daa CEO “categorically” denied availing of the facility to avoid the airport queues – stating he returned to Dublin from Saudi Arabia on Sunday when the problems at the building emerged.
