Dublin swimming ban

Something to bear in mind if you planned on going for a swim this weekend.

The weather isn’t exactly lending itself to going for a dip in the sea this weekend, but swimmers in Dublin have been urged to avoid two popular swimming spots in any case.

A temporary bathing water prohibition has been issued by Dublin City Council for Dollymount Strand and Sandymount Strand, effective from yesterday, Friday June 9, right through the weekend.

Dublin City Council said that bathing water samples were to be taken at both bathing areas on Friday, with results being available on Monday, June 12.

It is believed that the bathing water prohibition was issued after heavy rainfall in the Dublin area led to sewage from the River Liffey washing up on the beaches in Sandymount and Dollymount.

The weather forecast suggests there will be more of where that heavy rainfall came from over the coming days, but things are set to improve, with warm temperatures and a good deal of dry weather from Wednesday heading into the weekend.
