‘The drivers have made this decision in order to prioritise the safety of both their passengers and themselves’
Dublin bus drivers have announced that they will be suspending services to a west Dublin estate following violent threats.
Drivers of the 13 route have informed their unions that they will no longer service Bawnogue after 6pm, reports the Irish Mirror.
The decision will be effective from Thursday January 18.
Concern amongst drivers was caused due to harassment from local gangs.
It’s understood that Dublin bus will not resume the route until they can pass through without threats being made.
The route instead will continue along the Nangor Road before terminating at Grange Castle from 6pm onwards.
Independent Councillor Francis Timmons informed the public about the curtailments on Facebook, writing: “The drivers have made this decision in order to prioritise the safety of both their passengers and themselves. The curtailments will continue until they receive guarantees that they can pass through without the threat of attacks.”
He added: “The only area along the route that will not be serviced during the curtailment hours will be Bawnougue housing scheme. Grange Castle will still have a full service.”
