Dublin charity run for Colombia earthquake – your weekend event

Spain’s wildfire. Thailand’s floods. Venezuela’s earthquake. And now, Colombia’s.

It's a lot. Where to give money and to who?

Luckily, if you live in Dublin, there’s a very easy way to send help to aid during the natural disaster in Colombia.

On August 10th, the country suffered one of the strongest earthquakes in its recorded history.

“Latin Social Run was founded five months ago with the aim of creating a Latin American community in Dublin and of connecting with anyone, regardless of nationality, who is interested in cultural exchange through sport”, explains Ángela Pérez, founder of the group.

“On this occasion, we decided to organise this charity run to help those affected in Chocó and the surrounding areas.”

They had their first charity run last Sunday for the latin community based in Dublin and everyone who wanted to be a part of it.

Save the date on your calendar for the next event, which will take place in St Stephen’s Green Park, on Sunday 23 August, at 11 am. The meeting point will be at the main entrance.

If you can’t make it to the meeting or are not much of a runner, no worries. You can donate through the donation link.  So far, it will be open throughout the whole week, but stay updated on the progress and the latest news by following their social media.

The social club has partnered with Fundación MarAdentro, a foundation based in Chocó, which works with local communities and focuses on the conservation and sustainable development of Colombia’s Pacific region.

The donations will help to support the communities affected in the Chocó area by providing construction materials, transportation and fuels, and any other essential supplies such as medicines and urgent needs.

The initiative is also supported by Dublin-based Colombian communities Salsa Caleña Dublin, Salsa Band Dublin Tumbao, and Asociación de Colombianos en Irlanda.

Everybody is welcome. No minimum experience is required. You can either run or walk. The only and one goal is to offer an opportunity for anyone who wants to do their bit to help people in need.

Every way of showing up matters. So if you didn’t have any plans for the weekend, this is your sign to spend your Sunday morning doing this good deed while spending some time outdoors and doing something good for your body.

Take care of yourself at the same time you take care of others.

Don’t forget to share your pictures in stories to motivate others and inspire anyone who’d also like to collaborate!

“We want running to be a way of contributing from afar and to symbolise unity”, concluded Ángela.
