weekend weather

Temperatures are set to drop to as low as -4 over the weekend.

25 counties have been issued a weather warning by Met Éireann, which will remain in place until Sunday morning.

The low temperature and ice warning has been issued for all of Munster, Connacht, and Leinster, as well as Cavan and Monaghan.

Temperatures will fall to minus 3 or minus 4 degrees tonight, coldest around dawn and staying below freezing until mid-morning on Sunday.

In light of this, Dublin Fire Brigade have issued the following advisory:

“With temperatures staying in single figures today and dropping to freezing tonight don’t be tempted to light a stove or fire unless you are confident the chimney is clean. If you haven’t used the fire or chimney this winter season assume it needs a clean.”

Additionally, they have asked that people “check in on vulnerable or elderly family, friends or neighbours to see if they are warm enough. It is not unusual for our paramedics to respond to hypothermic patients in their homes when temperatures drop to today’s values.”
