Dublin named among the 10 best cities in the world to visit by Lonely Planet
It said Dublin's plans to "pedestrianise parts" of the city had played a role in its selection.
Lonely Planet is pretty much the world's authority when it comes to all things travel, trip and holiday related, so when it makes a recommendation, it carries significant weight.
So it's good news for Dublin that it has been named the seventh best city in the world to visit in 2022 by Lonely Planet.
The publication described the Irish capital as Dublin as “one of Europe’s most down-to-earth and friendly cities”.
It cited the city's “approach to ethical tourism, its flourishing independent artisan shopping scene, and plans to pedestrianise parts of the centre to create a renewed sense of community” as reasons for its selection on the list.
“Modern Dublin still has all the appeal of the city in Joyce’s day plus a host of compelling contemporary reasons to visit now," Lonely Planet said.
Dublin lost out to the likes of Auckland, who took the number one spot, as well as Taipei and Freiburg who claimed second and third respectively.
