This Dublin rent offer shows just how bad the housing market is

JOE

There are no words for this…

When it comes to renting a house or a room in Dublin it can be very difficult. The price, the availabiliy and the type of accommodation these days are disheartening.

And that’s before you even get an appointment to view the place. Next brings a speed dating type situation where you have to sit awkwardly in front of the other people renting in the house trying to convince them to pick you for the room for rent.

And just when we thought things were reaching an all time low a new advert has surfaced which features half of a double bed for rent.

That’s right, not the full bed, half of it because you will be sharing it with another person. The property is in Smithfield and costs €350 per month, including bills.

The ad, which was put on the Facebook page Rent in Dublin, says:

“*350 Euros* ***Female only***
Double Bed share (with one lady) available from 1st December
in Smithfield, Dublin 7.
Lovely apartment right next to Smithfield square and about a 15 min walk to O’Connell Street..
Luas is only 5 min walk away as is a 24 hour centra (Shop)
(gym with swimming pool one min walk away)
IF you cant move in first December I can be more flexible around that date, thanks.
Includes internet, water and bin bills.
Only bill you pay will be electricity which is spilt between 3 of us.
(could be around 50-75 every 2 months)
*deposit 350
**Please note, you are sharing a double bed with another lady..
And apartment is landlord occupied .”

Of course, we’re really hoping this isn’t a genuine advert but judging by the house market today it very well could be.
