On-duty Garda injured after hit-and-run in Cork

A motorcyclist collided with the male Garda.

An on-duty Garda was left injured after a hit-and-run in Cork on Friday (1 July).

The incident occurred at the Victoria Road/Monahan Road Junction at around 7pm.

A motorcyclist collided with the Garda, who was conducting a checkpoint reportedly for the Elton John concert that took place in Páirc Uí Chaoimh in the evening time.

The motorcyclist failed to remain at the scene and the Garda was taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment of his non-life-threatening “facial and head injuries”.

No arrests have been made as of yet and Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the incident to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera footage, including dashcam footage, and were travelling in the area of the Victoria Road/Monahan Road Junction between 6.50pm and 7.05pm are asked to make it available to Gardaí.
