The hijacker was in a Cypriot court today and he offered up a few reasons for his incredible actions, stating that he was acting out of desperation.

“When someone hasn’t seen his family for 24 years and wants to see his wife and children, and the Egyptian government won’t let him, what is he supposed to do?” Mr. Mustafa told the authorities, according to a prosecutors’ statement.
While the passenger that posed for a photo has gone viral, there's nothing funny or lighthearted about the charges that Mustafa is currently faceing, piracy and violations of counterterrorism law both carry life sentences.
To compound matters for Mustafa, it's clear that his wife is far from impressed with the stunt.
Speaking through an interpreter, she claimed: "I'm so embarrassed by all the publicity and I don't want to see him."
Mr. Mustafa remains in detention.
