It’s been reported that at least 25 England fans have been detained as a direct result of the incident.

A legion of England fans were arrested after a video has surfaced of at least 25 of them launching booze and plastic cups at a group of women in a boat, following by one of them diving into the Amsterdam canal.

A video, which has since gone viral, shows one fan stripping down and launching himself into the water as boatfuls of tourists sail below.

The video also ends with one fan then tossing a bicycle into the canal.

England are playing the Netherlands tonight in a friendly in the Dutch capital.

Earlier this week it was reported that senior British police officers were astonished that the FA would fix a friendly match on a Friday night in Amsterdam for fears of hooliganism – and it would seem their fears are justified, with a number of fans having already been arrested.

Dutch riot police were forced to intervene on Thursday evening when supporters starting throwing bottles and smashing windows in the city centre.

Dutch television broadcasters TV5 reported on Friday that police in the capital are no longer enforcing the public alcohol ban in the city’s red light district as it is becoming impossible to enforce due to the large number of England fans in the area.

Police have also confirmed that there will be an increased presence at the stadium on Friday evening in order to avoid any more violent clashes with supporters.
