The new sign comes after Enoch Burke was imprisoned earlier this month.

Wilson’s Hospital School, the Westmeath school that dismissed teacher Enoch Burke, has placed a new sign at its entrance.

As reported by The Irish Independent – who published an image of the sign – it reads: “Private property” and “Trespassers will be prosecuted”.

The erection of the sign comes after Burke was imprisoned earlier this month for having attended the premises of Wilson’s in Multyfarnham nearly every day since the school year began.

This was despite a High Court order to stay away from its premises.

On Friday 8 September, Judge Mark Heslin stated that Burke was to remain in Mountjoy Prison until he purges his contempt by pledging to keep clear of Wilson’s.

The teacher has been involved in a long-running dispute with his former employer. It stems from his suspension from the school in August of last year.

This followed a refusal by Burke, an evangelical Christian, to refer to a student by their preferred pronouns.

The Irish Independent reports that it approached Wilson’s to ask why it made the decision to place the sign at its entrance following the imprisonment of Burke.

However, the paper states that the school did not comment on the matter.
