EU citizens will have to fill out a ‘nightmare’ form to remain in Britain following Brexit

A lot of paperwork…

Citizens of the European Union who live in Britain will have to fill out a 85-page form if they wish to remain in Britain following Brexit.

According to The Independent, the form will have to be completed by any immigrants who wish to stay in the country.

The processing fee for each application will cost £65 which means that it’s a bill which could potentially run into hundreds of pounds for families to complete.

This doesn’t take into account the fees of lawyers and accountants which may be needed to complete the  process which is said to be complicated and costly.

“When someone asks me for help with this I don’t even mention the price — I just say ‘no’ because I know this is going to be a nightmare,” Sebastian Derwisinski, the owner of an accountancy firm in Northampton, told the Financial Times.

The application for permanent residence, which is necessary for those wishing to get British citizenship, was introduced in 2015. But up until now, EU citizens were exempt from the process under EU rules, with EU citizens automatically given residency after living in the UK for five years.
