Fans protested at the most recent Ireland match.
The FAI have released another statement addressing the concerns of fans on the back of mounting complaints from Ireland’s football community.
It reads: “The Board of the FAI acknowledges the concerns expressed by members of the football family, supporters, commentators, politicians and the public around recent media stories concerning the Association.
The statement describes the board as “committed to fully addressing the issues of concern.” To this end, the statement announces that the board has established a sub-committee from its members to “urgently address these matters.”
An external audit and review of these matters will also be undertaken by global consultancy firm Mazars.
Fans made their voices heard during Ireland’s 1-0 win over Georgia at the Aviva Stadium by throwing tennis balls onto the pitch during the 33rd minute — a reference to the FAI’s attempt to have Ireland included in the 2010 World Cup as a 33rd team.
The board of the FAI will soon appear before the Joint Oireachtas Committee of Transport, Tourism and Sport to answer questions about recent developments.
