Man (40s) killed after walking in front of oncoming truck after driving into a ditch

The incident took place in Cork on Monday afternoon.

A man aged in his 40s has died following a fatal traffic collision that occurred in Cork on Monday afternoon, 17 February.

At approximately 1.15pm, Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of the collision on the N27, Main Cork to Kinsale Road after a car left the road and struck a ditch.

The driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, left his car and walked into the path of an oncoming truck.

The driver of the truck was uninjured in the collision but was treated at the scene for shock. Garda forensic collision investigators conducted an examination of the scene and the road has since re-opened to motorists.

Gardaí are appealing to any road users who travelled on the road prior to the incident and may have dash cam footage to contact Togher Garda Station on 021 494 7120.
