A man in his 70s has been killed in a collision in Cork

The incident took place on Saturday morning.

Gardaí in Cork are appealing for witnesses following a single vehicle fatal collision that occurred on Saturday.

Shortly before 11am, a 4×4 vehicle left the road and struck a ditch on the R585 at Shanlaragh near Dunmanway.

The driver, a man in his 70s and the sole occupant of the 4×4, was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

His body was subsequently removed to the mortuary at University Hospital Cork.

Garda forensic collision investigators have carried out an examination of the vehicle and crash site and the local coroner has been notified.

Investigating Gardaí say that the results of the post-mortem examination will determine the course of the investigation into the incident.
