Man in his 60s killed following fatal road traffic collision in Monaghan

The incident occurred on Tuesday morning.

Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic collision that took place in Monaghan on Tuesday morning, 19 October.

At approximately 7.20am, Gardaí received reports that a tanker lorry had veered off-road, colliding with a roadside ditch.

The driver of the truck, a man aged in his 60s, was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.

His body has been removed to the mortuary at Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda, where a post-mortem examination will take place.

At the time of writing on Tuesday evening, the N12 – Monaghan to Armagh – at Knockaconny is closed so that Gardaí may carry out a forensic examination.

Local diversions have been put in place.

An appeal has been issued for anyone who have may have witnessed the incident to come forward, particularly any road users who were travelling in the vicinity at the time and who may have dash cam footage.
