The motion, put forward by Leo Varadkar, was unanimously agreed.

Three Fine Gael senators who lost the party whip over their attendance at the infamous Golfgate event during the summer have had their membership reinstated.

The three senators who attended the Oireachtas Golf Society dinner have been reinstated after a vote, as unanimously agreed by Fine Gael members. Jerry Buttimer, Paddy Burke and John Cummins were reinstated at a meeting on Tuesday.

Over 80 people were in attendance at the event, which was investigated by Gardaí at the time due to a breach of Covid-19 restrictions.

The event in question saw a number of prominent figures from media and politics in attendance, including Dara Calleary, Phil Hogan and Sean O’Rourke, among others.

It is believed that the event in question was held approximately 24 hours after the government had announced a tightening of restrictions around the country, with advice to limit gatherings to just six people at home, 15 people outdoors, and a maximum of 50 people at events organised in a socially-distanced way.

Fine Gael has not yet made any official comment on the matter.
