120 firefighters battle enormous blaze at luxury hotel in London

More than 100 firefighters have been called to a fire at the Mandarin Oriental hotel

At least 12 storeys are reportedly on fire.

Firefighters are battling a fire on the roof of a luxury five-star hotel in central London.

20 fire engines have been sent to the Mandarin Oriental hotel in William Street, Knightsbridge, near the capital’s West End.

London Fire Brigade said crews were called to the scene at 3.55pm.

“20 fire engines and 120 firefighters and officers have been called to a visible fire in William Street in Knightsbridge.

“The Brigade’s 999 control officers have taken more than 35 calls to the fire, which is producing a lot of smoke.

“The Brigade was called at 3.55pm. Fire crews from Chelsea, Kensington, Hammersmith, Battersea and other surrounding fire stations are at the scene.

“The cause of the fire is not known at this stage.”

The 12-storey Mandarin Oriental has previously been used by the Royal Family. A number of roads have been closed off to facilitate fire fighters.

Transport for London said the blaze was also affecting entry to and exit from Knightsbridge station.

No casualties have been reported at time of writing.
