Man arrested after firearms seized during overnight operation in Dublin

One man has been arrested after Gardaí recovered two firearms during an operation that took place overnight in the south inner city area of Dublin.

As part of ongoing investigations into serious criminality in the Tallaght area, members of the Armed Support Unit (ASU) and Gardaí from the Tallaght district searched an apartment in the Kevin Street area on Saturday night, 22 February.

During the course of the search, two handguns along with two magazines and quantities of ammunition were recovered.

A man, aged in his late 20s, was subsequently arrested at the scene and is currently being detained at Kilmainham Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act, 1939.

Under that act, he may be held in custody for up to three days.

Investigations are ongoing.
