Five people arrested after masked men rob post office with sawn-off shotgun

The robbery took place at about 11.10am on Thursday morning.

Gardaí have arrested five men in connection with an armed robbery at a post office in County Waterford on Thursday morning.

The robbery took place at approximately 11.10am, when three masked men entered the Post Office in Cleaboy, Co Waterford.

The men threatened staff, while also demanding money. One was also noted as being armed with a sawn-off shotgun.

Subsequently, they fled the scene with a sum of money in a getaway car and shortly afterwards, a car was found burnt out.

During a follow-up search, five men were arrested in connection with the investigations.

They are currently being detained at Waterford Garda Station under the provisions of Section 30 – Offences Against the State Act 1939.

The scene is currently preserved and investigations are continuing.
