Members of the public who might come across the product have been warned not to interfere with the containers.

Gardaí in Midleton are investigating the theft of five containers of liquid nitrogen from a farmyard in east Cork in the early hours of Tuesday morning (5 May).

Sometime between the hours of 1am and 7.30am on Tuesday, five containers of liquid nitrogen, as well as other specialised farm machinery, were removed from a farmyard in Killeagh using an Ifor Williams trailer.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone with information in relation to the incident to come forward, particularly anyone who was in the Killeagh area between the hours of 1am and 7.30am on Tuesday and any road users travelling in the area who may have camera (dash-cam) footage.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Youghal Garda Station on 024 92200 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.

Gardaí are also warning members of the public who come across this product not to interfere with the containers and contact their local Garda station immediately.

Liquid nitrogen is colourless, odourless and tasteless. When spilled or in contact with skin, it can cause severe burns and there is also a risk of suffocation if the substance is released in a confined space.

No arrests have yet been made in relation to the incident and investigations are ongoing.
