Met Éireann warns of potential flooding following new heavy rain warning

Rain rain, go away.

10 counties have been issued with a Status Yellow warning by Met Éireann for "persistent rainfall" and possible "flooding". Set to be valid from 6pm on Thursday (14 September) until 6am on Friday, the rain alert applies to the counties of Carlow, Kilkenny, Laois and Wexford, as well as the province of Munster. "Persistent rainfall may cause localised flooding," the Irish meteorological service's warning reads. "Outbreaks of rain will push up from the south."

Possible flooding

With Ireland's recent Indian summer spell having passed, Met Éireann's outlook for the next few days states: "Unsettled with uncertainty in the timing and intensity of rainfall." According to its current predictions though, "very heavy overnight rain" will be slow to clear eastwards on Friday morning and will possibly linger for much of the day before petering out during the evening. This is set to be amid cool conditions, with highest temperatures of 12 to 15 degrees. As for the weekend, Met Éireann adds: "Saturday will bring a mix of sunny spells and showers, most frequent in the east. "Sunday likely to be wet with heavy rainfall moving up from the south."
