Flooding Galway

Something, something… grand day for ducks.

It’s been very wet over the past seven days with rainfall accumulations three and a half times the average in some areas for this time of year.

Next week is promised to be unsettled and rainfall is expected to be above average across most of the country.

Storms in consecutive weeks have meant soils remain waterlogged and rivers levels are high, meaning there’s an increased risk of flooding this week if rainfall continues to fall.

But an area renowned for flooding is the N65 between Portumna and Borrisokane near the village of Carrigahorig. Heavy rainfall has rendered the road is impassable for some vehicles and diversions are in place.

Emphasis, in the above sentence, should be placed on the word “some” because there’s a few people who definitely aren’t letting the floods get in the way of some Sunday morning fun.
