Food influencer Michael Duarte shot dead by police

He had over 839,000 followers on social media.

The California-based social media star was shot dead as police attended a 911 call about a 'male subject with a knife acting erratically'.

According to the Daily Mail, Duarte, 36, 'approached officers threateningly' and despite being asked by officers to 'get on the ground' he refused to comply.

The Medina County Sheriff's Office say that in his final moments, Duarte 'charged toward the deputy while yelling I'm going to kill you'.

The deputy says he then fired two shots, hitting Duarte. Despite receiving immediate medical attention, he was pronounced dead after being transported to a nearby hospital.

He died just days after celebrating his wedding anniversary.

In a statement, his talent agency, Alooma Media Group, said: "It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our valued client and dear friend, Michael Duarte.

"He was a true and loyal partner, a trusted collaborator, and above all, a remarkable person. His passion, professionalism, and creativity left a lasting mark not only on our team but on everyone who had the privilege of working with him."

Duarte amassed a following of over 839,000 fans on Instagram with his cooking videos.
