Great bravery shown here…

Former Kerry footballer Tom O’Sullivan is being hailed as a hero in the Kingdom after he foiled a burglary by a gang.

O’Sullivan, who is a Garda in Listowel, Co Kerry, was struck with the hurl while attempting to arrest one of the suspects.

He had been on patrol last Thursday when an alarm was raised about a group of masked men trying to force their way into a house in the Listowel area.

After responding to the call, the thieves fled on foot towards their car with O’Sullivan giving chase. He managed to grab one of them but was surrounded by the other gang members who threatened and hit him with hurleys.

Fortunately, he wasn’t seriously injured in the attack and was back at work the next day. You have to admire his bravery for chasing a gang of potentially armed men all in the name of upholding the law.

The five time All-Ireland medal winner even managed to capture some vital evidence in the case before the man got away, a hurl and a baseball cap which have been sent away for forensic analysis.

The burglary is one in a spate of break-ins in Kerry from gangs who’re targeting empty houses.
