The four children are believed to be related.

Four children have died following a house fire that took place in London on Thursday, 16 December.

A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade expressed “profound sadness” following the incident.

Approximately 60 firefighters and eight fire engines were dispatched to tackle an “intense” blaze which broke out a residence on Collingwood Road in Sutton.

It is understood that the fire started on the ground floor of the house.

Firefighters entered the mid-terrace house and brought four young children out of the property.

They were immediately given CPR by firefighting personnel at the scene, who assisted London Ambulance Service crews upon their arrival.

All four children were removed to hospital where they were pronounced as deceased.

“This is an incident that has left everyone numb with profound sadness,” said London Fire Commissioner Andy Roe.

“My thoughts are with the family and friends of the children, the whole local community and all those who will be affected by this fire.

“Fire crews arrived quickly and located the children inside the property. They were brought out of the house and given immediate emergency care.

“The welfare of our staff involved in this incident is very important to us and all of them will be offered counselling as a priority.”

Sky News reports that the four children are believed to be related to one another.
