Free entry today to tourist sites all around the country

Rosanna Cooney

There’s nothing wrong with being a tourist in your own country.

Kilkenny castle, Newgrange and Kilmainham Gaol are just a few of the 43 heritage sites around the country that are free to the public on Wednesday.

On every first Wednesday of the month the Office of Public Works (OPW) gives free admission to some of the most beautiful and historic places in Ireland.

A full list of all the castles and culture available can be found on www.heritageireland.ie.

Kilkenny, Ireland - October 31, 2013 : People are walking around a main tourist attraction in Ireland, the Kilkenny Castle. On the right a man with a red top is taking a picture.

Get those Instagram filters and cheesy sandwiches ready.
