Doctors have told the Olympic medallist that he will have to spend some time in a wheelchair as he recovers from two broken legs.

On Saturday the news emerged that boxer John Joe Nevin was attacked in Mullingar and that during the assault he suffered serious leg injuries.

Now it is being reported in the Irish Times that doctors at the Midlands Hospital in Tullamore have confirmed that both his legs were broken in the attack.

His right leg was fractured in two places and a scan on his other leg today revealed it too was broken, The 24-year-old now faces a spell in a wheelchair as he recovers.

The incident occurred at Nevin’s home on Saturday as he tried to intervene in a row there. Nevin was subsequently attacked with a golf club and a stick and while a man was arrested later that day, he was released on Saturday night.
