It was a night to recognise great sporting achievements last night, as some worthy winners were crowned at the RTE Sports Awards

Last night saw some of Ireland’s sporting greats get all fancied up in their best gear to head to the RTÉ Sports Awards, where Tony McCoy scooped the Sports Person of the Year award. Rob Heffernan, Martyn Irvine, Tony Kelly, Michael Darragh Macauley, Michael McKillop, Annalise Murphy, Joseph O’Brien, Jason Quigley, Jonathan Sexton and Jason Smyth had all been nominated, but McCoy’s achievement of having ridden his 4,000th winner was enough to get him the nod this year.

He wasn’t the only one honoured though, as members of the All-Ireland winning Clare panel were also recognised with the Sports Team of the Year prize, and manager Davy Fitzgerald won the Manager of the Year award.

Speaking of managers, new Ireland boss Martin O’Neill was also on hand to present legendary defender Paul McGrath with his trophy, as he entered the RTE Sports Hall of Fame last night too. There were plenty of other awards and sporting heroes in the crowd, so check out the gallery to get a good look.
