Time to organise your mates for a little trip.

Despite the fact that it’s only September and we’re not yet ready to start writing about the Christmas season – it’s still too early – there’s some good news for anyone that’s already planning their social calendar.

Galway City Council have confirmed that the Galway Christmas market will return this winter and that it’s going to be running from Friday, 16 November to Saturday, 23 December.

Last year’s event, held in Eyre Square, received over 350,000 visitors and the organisers are adding to the already impressive list of amenities.

This year will feature amusement rides, a 32 metre-high Big Wheel, Helter Skelter and a traditional Carousel.

Aside from this, there’s also going to be live music, choirs, carol singing and plenty of stalls for shoppers to enjoy.

In terms of the food that’s available, revellers can get stuck into some bratwurst, pastries, pretzels, crêpes and waffles. We’re hungry even reading that.

If you fancy a tipple, there’s a range of German beers, apple cider and mulled wine. Sure, it’s not the Christmas season without mulled wine.

For the eighth year running, Milestone Inventive will be running the festival and in an interview with the Connacht Tribune, Maria Moynihan, Managing Director of Milestone Inventive, confirmed the news.

“This event has really worked for the city. It’s been a great success for the local tourism industry from the retailers and traders to accommodation providers.”

If you’ve never been before, take a look at what’s in store.
