He was heavily criticised for his role in what was seen as a campaign to smear the Garda whistleblower Sargent Maurice McCabe.
Garda Superintendent David Taylor has reportedly been suspended from duty.
Taylor was strongly criticised in the Disclosures Tribunal report, which found that he was part of a campaign to smear the Garda whistleblower Sgt Maurice McCabe.
According to RTÉ, Taylor has been suspended on the basis that there has been a loss of public confidence in him as a member of An Garda Síochána.
In a statement issued on Sunday night, a spokesperson for the Gardaí said that: “A Garda officer has been suspended from duty. As this is an employment matter, An Garda Síochána will not be commenting further particularly on the identity of the individual.”
The Supreme Court Judge, Mr Justice Peter Charleton, who chaired the Disclosures Tribunal, found that Superintendent Taylor lied on a number of occasions including in a High Court affidavit.
