Important news if you’re heading to Phoenix Park this weekend.

It’s almost time. Pope Francis will be in Ireland this weekend, and the country is making plans.

So far we’ve reported a full list of all of the items that are banned from the Papal Visit, as well as transport information for what will definitely be a hectic weekend on the roads.

And now The Gardaí have issued advice for anyone planning on attending the Mass in Phoenix Park this Sunday.

Gardaí have urged that people enter and leave using the colour coded route as outlined on their tickets.

They have also confirmed that the three cycle hubs in use this weekend wherein cyclists can park their bikes near Phoenix Park. The hubs can be located in the following areas:

  • DIT Grangegorman, Dublin 7.
  • St Brigids School, Blanchardstown Village, Dublin 15.
  • Amphitheatre, Dublin City Council, Civic Offices, Wood Quay, Dublin 8.

There are a number of areas close to Phoenix Park where cyclists may be asked to dismount their bikes as it would be too dangerous due to the vast number of people who will be in close proximity.

They also said that because there will be more people around the city, that people should plan their journey and leave extra time to get to their destination.

Chief Superintendent Aidan Reid, Dublin Metropolitan Region (Roads Policing) Division offered his advice, saying:

“I would advise all those travelling in the area on Monday to be aware of traffic restrictions in Phoenix Park. There may be increased traffic on other routes in this area as a result. Some schools will be open on Monday which will cause an increase in the volume of traffic on the roads. Please plan your journey accordingly and use public transport if possible.”
