The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to a fatal road traffic collision that took place at approximately 12.30pm today (Saturday 21 December) in Cavan.
The collision between a car and a lorry occurred on the N55, at Corduff, Ballinagh, in Cavan.
Gardaí were called the scene, where the driver of the car, a female in her 70s, was removed to Cavan General Hospital.
She was later pronounced dead.
No other injuries from the incident have been reported.
The road is currently closed and undergoing an examination by Forensic Collision Investigators.
Local diversions are in place.
