The investigation is ongoing.

Ardgillan Community College in Balbriggan is the subject of a police investigation after an online threat was made against the safety of its staff and students.

The Gardaí have since released a statement on the matter, which read: “Gardaí are investigating reports of online threats against staff at a school in the north Dublin area. It’s understood the material was circulated online yesterday evening.”

The statement adds: “Following the reports an investigation was commenced and a 16-year-old youth has since been arrested. He is currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Dublin Garda Station. The investigation is ongoing.”

It’s believed that the student made a threat via Instagram which said they would bring a gun into school with them and “shoot up the place”.

Gardaí have confirmed that they’re liaising with management at the school and are now satisfied that there is no imminent danger to staff or students attending the school.
