The driver also had no motor insurance.

An Garda Síochána have recounted how a male driver in Leitrim was arrested and subsequently found to be “over 14 times the legal drink driving limit”.

In a post on social media on Thursday (5 September), Gardaí said they were on patrol in Carrick-on-Shannon when they spotted a car being driven erratically.

Pulling in the driver, they discovered while talking to him that he was a learner permit holder driving unaccompanied and with no L plates on display.

On top of this, he also had no motor insurance.

“When our suspicions were raised about the possibility that he was driving under the influence of alcohol, we decided to make an arrest and complete a test back at the station,” Gardaí also stated.

It was there he tested over 14 times the legal drink driving limit.

“There’s a few charges there now,” An Garda Síochána added.
