‘Operation Lockdown’ tested 390 drivers on Friday alone.

Gardaí from Dublin Metropolitan Region Roads Policing Units arrested six motorists for Driving Under the Influence as part of bank holiday weekend road safety and enforcement activities in Dublin on Friday evening.

The six motorists were arrested during a series of eight checkpoints on major routes out of the city as part of ‘Operation Lockdown’.

A total of 361 motorists were tested on the roadside for alcohol and a further 29 tested for drugs.

To date, 90 people have been killed on Irish roads in 2019, which is six more than at the same time in 2018.

Gardaí are reminding drivers to never drive while under the influence, and for everyone to be extra cautious on the roads over the remainder of the bank holiday weekend.
