A lot of people caught speeding despite the warnings and you know, it being illegal and all that…
A well publicised 24-hour clampdown took place on Friday around the country as Gardaí looked to reduce the numbers of speed related accidents.
Between 7am on Friday and 7am on Saturday, Gardaí caught a total of 322 motorists who were breaking the speed limit with some of those dramatically breaching the speed limit.
Amazingly, despite the warnings earlier in the week, Gardaí reported little change in the driving habits of drivers and revealed that one driver was caught undertaking and driving at 180km/h by an unmarked car.

Some of the other offences listed by the Gardaí are:
- 140km/h in a 100km/h zone on the N4 at Joanstown, Ballinalack, Westmeath
- 121km/h in a 50 km/h zone on the N17 at Ballynacarrow, South Ballinacarrow, Sligo
- 128km/h in a 80 km/h zone on the R240 at Cashel, Carndonagh, Donegal
- 120 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on the N15 Mount Temple Grange Sligo

But it wasn’t all speeding that the Gardaí had to deal with yesterday, they even had to take care of an unusual passenger in a broken down car on the M1 to Belfast.
