“A brutal and savage attack on a child and is completely unacceptable in any normal democratic society.”

Gardaí have confirmed the dismembered remains discovered in Coolock in Dublin on Monday are those of missing 17-year-old Keane Mulready-Woods.

Keane was least seen around at around 6pm by his family in Drogheda on Sunday evening.

Gardaí responded to a call on Monday evening, 13 January, that human remains had been discovered in a bag.

Senior investigators at Drogheda Garda Station confirmed on Wednesday night that the human remains discovered in the bag at Moateview Drive, Priorswood, Coolock last Monday night are those of the missing teenager.

Gardaí stressed it’s important to remember the victim in this crime was a child.

They’re appealing for information on Keane’s missing clothes and issued photos of the clothes he was wearing when he disappeared.

He was wearing a navy Hugo Boss Tracksuit, black Hugo Boss runners (brown sole, black laces), red/orange Canada Goose jacket and a Gucci baseball cap.

Gardaí have described what happened to him as “a brutal and savage attack on a child and is completely unacceptable in any normal democratic society.”

The investigation into the murder is being run from Drogheda Garda Station with Gardaí saying the level of violence “is shocking”.

At approximately 1.30am on Wednesday, Gardaí responded to a call from Dublin Fire Brigade stating that there was a vehicle on fire at Trinity Terrace, Dublin 3.

Further partial human remains were recovered from this vehicle which Gardaí believe also belong to Keane, but they are awaiting DNA confirmation.

Speaking on Wednesday evening, Deputy Garda Commissioner, Policing and Security, John Twomey said:

“An Garda Síochána is determined to bring those behind this shocking crime to justice. In recent years An Garda Síochána has made significant progress in tackling organised crime through arrests leading to convictions and major seizures of guns, drugs and cash. This focus will continue. As always, the help and support of communities is vital to this.”

Investigating Gardaí are making the following appeals to the public:

  • Information from anyone who has knowledge of Keane’s movements from when he was last seen on Sunday 12 January 2020 at approximately 6pm in the vicinity of Dominic’s Bridge, Drogheda.
