Gardaí investigating “criminal damage by fire” at KBC Bank

An investigation into the incident has begun.

An Garda Síochána have confirmed that Gardaí in Pearse St are investigating an incident of “criminal damage by fire” at a premises on Sandwith St., D2 on 20 December 2018.

The incident occurred between 11pm and midnight on Thursday evening. Dublin Fire Brigade was also in attendance at the scene, where they extinguished a fire in the lobby of the premises.

It was further confirmed that the building’s windows were also damaged in the incident.

KBC Bank, which is based on Sandwith Street, are the bank at the centre of the eviction of two men in Strokestown, Roscommon earlier this month, which preceded an assault on security personnel who were involved in the eviction. Several arrests have followed that incident.

The McGann family, who were evicted from the house in Roscommon, have issued a statement condemning violence.
