Gardaí investigating serious armed assault on a man and woman in Cork

The incident took place in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Gardaí are investigating following a serious assault on a man and a woman at a house in Ballincollig, County Cork on Sunday morning.

It is believed that a number of men armed with weapons went to the injured party’s house shortly after 3am and seriously assaulted the man and his partner.

The assailants then left the house. The injured parties were taken to Cork University Hospital for treatment.

The man’s injuries have been described as “very serious” while his partner’s – a woman in her 30s – injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Another adult female (early 30s) was present in the house at the time that the incident took place, along with two children under six years of age. They were not injured.

The house in Ballincollig is currently preserved for a technical examination.

A car was found burned out a number of kilometres away in Waterfall. That scene is also being preserved for a technical examination.
