It’s hard to imagine Halloween in Ireland without bonfires.
However, the blazes tend to make the evening a very challenging one for Ireland’s emergency services, and Gardaí have warned against leaving material lying around that could be used for building bonfires.
Kildare Now reports that a Garda spokesman issued the warning for everyone to make sure their flammable refuse doesn’t fall into the hands of those looking to build bonfires. “With Halloween a few weeks away, it gives everybody, especially those in the business world, time to give the place a good clean up. Get rid of any materials which can be used for stockpile for bonfires.”
“Try to ensure that nothing is left outside your premises which can be taken for bonfires. Pallets and tyres are the main items sought, so get working on cleaning up and reduce the temptation.”
Hallowe’en is routinely the busiest night of the year for Ireland’s fire brigades, and the Dublin Fire Brigade has shared photos of what they’ve had to deal with in the past.
